Official Mecosta Records Contacts

Mecosta County Busted Mugshots is a private reference resource, not a government office. We cannot confirm a person's custody or release status, arrange release, post bond, schedule a visit, or retrieve official booking records. For those matters, use the official contact that matches the type of record and the person's actual custody situation.

Official Records and Custody Routes

Mecosta County does not publish an official public web roster, recent-booking feed, mugshot gallery, or jail-information app. The office below is the supported starting point for a current county-custody question. A current-custody call is not a historical record search, and an arrest in Big Rapids or elsewhere in the county does not itself prove where a person is held.

Mecosta County Sheriff's Office and Jail

225 S. Stewart
Big Rapids, MI 49307

Sheriff administration: 231-592-0150
Jail current-custody line: 231-592-0156, answered 24 hours

Administrative fax: 231-796-5577
Jail fax: 231-796-7130
Sheriff records email: MCSO-FOIA@mecostasheriff.org

For a county booking record, release information, or a requested photograph, make a narrow written request to the Sheriff in person or by mail at 225 S. Stewart, or use the Sheriff records email. Include the name, incident date or close date range, arresting agency if known, report number if known, and exact record sought. A photograph is not promised merely because a booking or arrest occurred, and no specific county booking-photo fee is published.

The Sheriff lists fingerprinting from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. It lists a $9 traffic crash report and an incident-report charge of $2 for the first page plus $1 for each additional page. Those published charges are not booking-photo fees. Confirm current office procedures and any estimate before traveling or paying.

Mecosta County general FOIA route

Mindy Taylor, FOIA Coordinator
Board of Commissioners Office
400 Elm Street
Big Rapids, MI 49307

Fax: 231-592-0121
Email: BOC@mecostacounty.org

The Mecosta County FOIA process describes a five-business-day response period and a possible ten-business-day extension. A response can grant, partially grant, deny, or extend a request. Actual allowable costs, deposits, search, review, redaction, copying, mailing, and other policy terms can apply. The Sheriff records address remains the more direct county route when the request specifically concerns Sheriff or jail material.

Big Rapids city police record route

Big Rapids Department of Public Safety
435 N. Michigan Avenue
Big Rapids, MI 49307

Police: 231-527-0005
After-hours non-emergency: 231-796-4811

Email: brpolice@bigrapidsdps.org
Administrative hours: Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Use the City of Big Rapids FOIA route for a city-held police report or other municipal record. The city accepts requests in person at the City Clerk's Office, 226 N. Michigan Avenue, by mail, or online. If the county jail later created a booking record or image, use a separate Sheriff request for that county-held material.

Courts and case status

The Mecosta County courts directory is the official route for court contacts. The 77th District Court handles criminal and traffic matters at 231-592-0794 and is listed in Room 118, 400 Elm Street. The 49th Circuit Court is listed in Room 105 at the same address, telephone 231-592-0780. Court staff can explain court procedures, but a court contact is not a promise of current jail or warrant information.

The official MiCOURT case search is for available case and docket information. It is not a jail roster, booking-photo archive, or complete active-warrant database. For emergencies or an immediate threat, call 911 rather than a records office.

State, federal, and immigration custody

  • Michigan MDOC OTIS is the official state-supervision search for prisoners, parolees, probationers, and some recent discharges. It does not cover people held only in a county jail or city lockup, and an available profile image is not a new Mecosta booking photograph.
  • Federal Bureau of Prisons inmate locator is a federal custody lookup. It is not a public booking-photo gallery, and federal custody should be checked only when the facts support that possibility.
  • ICE Online Detainee Locator is for immigration detention information. It is not a county booking database, and a missing result does not establish that no immigration hold exists.

Use the office that created or holds the record, retain written responses, and keep the arrest allegation separate from the later court outcome. An arrest or booking does not establish guilt.
